Anorexia Committee

Definition of Anorexia:  In Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous, we suffer from addiction to sex, love, relationship, fantasy, romance and codependency.  However, there is still another addiction some of us suffer from:  anorexia.  As an eating disorder, anorexia is defined as the compulsive avoidance of food.  In the area of sex and love, anorexia has a similar definition:  Anorexia is the compulsive avoidance of giving or receiving social, sexual and/or emotional nourishment.

S.L.A.A.'s Conference Anorexia Committee (CAC)Mission Statement
The S.L.A.A. Conference Anorexia Committee (CAC) is responsible for carrying the message to the entire S.L.A.A. community that sexual anorexia, social anorexia and/or emotional anorexia are an inherent part of sex and love addiction as a whole.  The Committee encourages the integration of this idea into all areas of the Fellowship and literature as a service to the sexual anorexic.

ANOREXIA — Sexual, Social, Emotional  (published by The Augustine Fellowship of S.L.A.A.)

“We know there are very good reasons for our having become anorectic:  we also have come to realize that there is nothing to blame ourselves for in being anorexic.  But we now want nourishing emotional, sexual, and social lives.  Our anorexia may have come out of a precious sense of our own preservation, but still we want to change; we have begun the work of recovery and change in S.L.A.A.  We would like to say that your recovery is essential to ours.  So each new member brings a fresh understanding and a new possibility for recovery for all.  The fellowship of Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous welcomes you!”

This committee will periodically share what we learn with local groups and intergroups on this page as well as via the Conference Newsletters (now available online).  We will also spread the word about meeting formats and other activities that support members in the program.  In the spirit of autonomy, we will only share information and experience about what works.  We will offer no direction.

The Anorexia Committee asked in 2004, “Does anorexia tie in with your love and sex addiction? If so, how?” Below are the compiled results of that questionaire:
